The key active constituent in turmeric is curcumin, which is found within the root of the plant, and it is this part which is responsible for its bright yellow colour.
Studies have already shown how the curcumin in turmeric can inhibit the compounds involved in the inflammatory response. Consequently, practitioners often combine turmeric with glucosamine sulphate to combat problems such as joint stiffness. Also turmeric is increasingly being added to formulations for back problems. However, almost all of these formulas provide only token levels of this spice.
Positive results have also been shown by researchers in a recent trial using to help ease some symptoms of irritable bowel. In a relatively short time, some long-standing sufferers saw positive effects on the problems that had plagued them for more than 10 years.
Lamberts® Turmeric extract is a high potency root extract standardised to provide 95% curcumins, which is the level generally used in studies. Each tablet contains 500mg turmeric root extract, which is equivalent to 10,000mg of turmeric spice and is equivalent to two heaped teaspoons worth of spice.
